Hippo Factory ONGOING WEEKLY CLASSES occur every week on the same day and time.
Learn drawing fundamentals that will serve as the foundation of all your art work. Learn to break down a scene into shapes, drawing from large shapes to small shapes. We cover tone, composition, proportion, flow and value. Media used is charcoal / pencil.
This class will cover the basics of watercolor painting, by explaining the different materials, what to look for in brushes, paper and the difference between different grades of paint. Using demos, chats and painting from the still life or your own photos, you will learn how to work with watercolors and not against them.
Brian will teach you a simple step-by-step process to painting alla prima portraits. He will be going over composition, drawing, likeness, organizing your palette, color mixing, value, edges, and producing a completed portrait. A limited Zorn palatte will be taught. The palette consists of only 4 colors and is a very suitable limited palette for portrait painting. Working with a limited palette is challenging and rewarding, it is a great way for beginners to learn about the variety of colors one can achieve using only a few tubes of paint while advanced painters can mix things up a bit, by working with a restrictive palette. Through Brian's demo and one on one instruction and chats, you will explore the benefits of working within limits. Students will work from either provided photos or a live model.
Learn how to paint using oils or sharpen your oil painting skills or with the incredible artist Ana Sanchez.. For beginners you will learn the fundamentals of oil painting by understanding value, light, composition, color mixing, paint application, and how to use brushes for any desired finish. You will learn about materials and explore step by step of both indirect and direct painting techniques.
For more advanced students Ana will teach you advanced techniques to hone and sharpen your skills.
Learn how to approach a Still Life in a contemporary direct painting technique, also called Alla Prima. This class is helpful to learn to simplify information and deconstruct any object or pattern into basic geometric shapes. The wet-into-wet paint application lets the artist explore expressive brushstrokes, paint quality, and color/value relationships.
Our models are contemporary, edgy, dressed to reflect the times we live in. Think Coachella, burning man, NY street. Some models will be without clothes or will be wearing very little clothing. 3-hour pose will be alternated with a session of short poses - this might change depending on demand.
